My enrichment class has been doing book reports in the format of what we used to do with science fairs. I am so thrilled with what they have created!

A New School Year
Welcome back to Slater. We are now Slater Middle School and we welcome the new 6th grade students and teachers! Here's to a great new year.
If you have any good books to recommend, please let me know.
I just read.......
Cameron B. lent it to me and I finished it last weekend. This is the first YA book that has made me cry in a long time. Now I want to read all of his other books, especially Looking for Alaska. If you want a great read that will warm your heart and make you shed some tears, check out John Green's books.

A New Book by the author of Smile
After reading and loving Smile, the graphic novel by Raina TelgeMeier, I was so excited when I saw this book at my local library. I had to buy it for the students at Slater. I read it over the weekend and loved it. I didn't love it as much as Smile, but it was a great story about a middle school girl who loves theater productions. She dreams about becoming a stage hand for a Broadway show, and becomes involved in her school's spring musical. It also goes into all of the crazy stuff that middle school kids deal with like mean girls, romance and friendship. I highly recommend this book. It's a quick read and the artwork is fantastic.

Book Reviews by my Students
My classes will be writing book reviews this week on Edmodo. I would like to post some of them onto my blog and have other students comment on them. I want the Spartans to start reading even more! Reading opens all kinds of windows into new places, people, things, ideas and knowledge.
I read a book called, Tears of a Tiger", by Sharon M. Draper. This book is about four teenagers that were drinking and driving after a basketball game. One of the teen died (Robbie) because the one driving was drinking with any control. So the car crashed into a wall and Robbie died because his foot got stuck through the window shield. After the death of Robbie, Andy blames himself for Robbie's death and cannot get past through guilt and pain. I really liked the book because it teaches you not to drink and drive. I would recommend this book to someone else because it teaches you a lot of lessons.

I read a book called "The Mouse Marathon".The author is Geronimo Stilton. This book is about a mouse not knowing he's in a marathon.he has a trainer called Champ Strongpaws. He trains Stilton but sometime Stilton is lazy and he thinks some stuff are not fair because he can't eat his cheddar cheese.I love this book so much and i would recommend this book to some one else.I would because i know my friends would enjoy it.It has lot's of funny things in it and it can teach you that when your running a marathon it's not just about winning it's about helping other mouses/people out.
